ISSUE: about a report that the government may allow the establishment of casinos in Peng-hu.

Today I read a report that the government may allow the establishment of casinos in Peng-hu.

In past, rejecting the argument that casinos are good for the economy, the DPP government tuned down the businessmen’s proposal. It seems unlikely that there will be in opening for them in the foreseeable future. But the policy will be changed by KMT government.

I oppose the casinos because I think the benefit of casinos will be controlled by few people. Maybe the casinos can hire some local people, but these jobs are not stable. Because Taiwan’s economy has shrunk, I doubt whether Taiwan’s casinos can attract many gamblers or not. Macau has more luxury casinos; it is still a strong competitor to Taiwan’s counterparties. Therefore, I am a pessimist about the real benefit for society from this policy.
