Today I read a story about an engineer.

He worked for a computer company. He was a programmer and system analyst. The company is a very large business and it has been growing a lot in the past few years. Therefore, he had to work overtime quite often. But he didn’t mind because he enjoyed work out programming. However, he lost health due to heavy work.

Unfortunately, he was laid off by his company due to stagnation last year. It is very bad, I think.

Currently, Taiwan's economy is not good; therefore, more young people cannot gain a good job. Most of them will stay in campus for longer time to delay the fighting for job. The best method for undergraduate students to stay in campus is to enter the graduate school. So, the students of graduate schools will increase. Undoubtedly, the question aforementioned may become more serious. I hope the gloomy time can pass quickly.

Today I read a report that the chairman of Central Bank will let New Taiwan Dollar devalue.

I think when the N.T. dollar devalues relative to other currencies, the exports of the other countries become more expensive to buy in Taiwan and Taiwan exports become cheaper in other countries. But the devaluation of N.T. Dollar will impact foreign investors’ intention to hold Taiwanese companies' stocks. These stocks are valued as the N.T. Dollar.

On the other hand, growing pressures from foreign countries force the government to bend the rules in favor of importers. Rapid devaluation policy may stir up foreign importers and their governments angry.Therefore, the policy of devaluation is a double-edges sword.

• I think the Jackie Chen’s(成龍) movie is positive stereotypes of Chinese people. For example, in his movie “the Rush Hour”, Jackie Chen is a Hong Kong police officer who is assigned to help a Los Angles police officer to investigate a Chinese kidnaper. Jackie is a real hero. He is good at Kong-fu, smarter and gentler than his American partner. He solved all problems and save his partner’s life several times. All bad guys’ trickeries are handled by Chen in advance. Of course, he saves the hostage—a Chinese girl—at the end.

• The negative stereotypes of Chinese people are unusual in recent American movie. “Danny the Dog” gave me a deep impression. In this movie, Jet Lee(李連杰) raised into behaving like a dog, escapes from his captor to start a new life, who seeks to reclaim him because of his unnatural martial arts skills that are triggered when unleashed. Because Lee is a Chinese, his “dog” behavior in this firm is harsh to Chinese audience. Moreover, his captor and many other bad guys are Chinese. They are cruel, selfish and fool. I think it is an example of negative stereotypes of Chinese in some Americans’ thought.

I went shopping last weekend

I went shopping last weekend.

I go shopping once a week. I usually buy some snacks, such as chocolate, cookies and drinks. I usually go shopping with my roommates.

I get the information from the newspapers, DM and also from my friends, if my friends say a particular food is good, I will buy that food. I think a private source is more reliable than ads.

ISSUE:About the importance of family

Today a professor discussed the importance of family. He said some people think the family is the most important influence on young adults. Other people think that friends are the most important influence on young adults.

I argue in favor of the theory that friends have more influence on young adults. The first reason is that young adults spend much more time with friends than with parents. Especially those students live in the school. The second reason is that most young adults fell more relaxed with friends than with parents. For example, I enjoy shopping, talking to friend on MSN with friends.

Therefore, I believe that friends are the most important influence on young adults.
